The La Banque Museum in Hyères invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the legendary artist Andy Warhol.

From February 8 to June 8, 2025, the Museum of Cultures and Landscape "La Banque" in Hyères will host an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the iconic Pop Art artist, Andy Warhol. This retrospective offers visitors the chance to discover or rediscover Warhol’s iconic universe through 71 artworks, comprising 171 pieces, exclusively loaned by the Andy Warhol Museum in Medzilaborce, Slovakia, the country of origin of Warhol’s family.

This collection is one of a kind in France. The exhibition gathers some of Warhol’s most emblematic works, including his famous screen prints "Marilyn," "Mao," "Flowers," and "Campbell’s Soup II." However, it is not limited to these well-known pieces; the exhibit also features more confidential works, providing a comprehensive panorama of Warhol’s prolific creativity.

This ambitious cultural project highlights the collaboration between the Prešov region in Slovakia and the Southern Region of France (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur). This initiative underscores the artistic and cultural ties between these two regions while offering the French public an unprecedented access to works from a European museum exclusively dedicated to Warhol.

The La Banque Museum has a unique setting. Located in the former Bank of France building in Hyères, the museum stands out for its elegant architecture and rich history. Born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Warhol passed away on February 22, 1987, in New York. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The son of Slovak immigrants, Warhol began his career as a commercial illustrator before transitioning into contemporary art.

His silkscreen prints featuring cultural icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Campbell’s Soup cans marked a turning point in modern art.

Warhol also explored other media, including:

  • Film, through his experimental movies,

  • Music, as the producer of The Velvet Underground’s first album,

  • Television, with his own TV shows.

His New York studio, "The Factory," became a legendary meeting place for artists, musicians, and celebrities.

Beyond his artistic work, Warhol founded the magazine "Interview," blending pop culture, celebrity news, and contemporary art. His eccentric personality and fascination with fame made him an icon beyond the art world, positioning him as a pioneer of modern celebrity culture.

Warhol survived an assassination attempt in 1968, when radical feminist Valerie Solanas shot him. This event marked a turning point in his life, influencing both his art and his perspective on fame. Despite this, he continued to create prolifically until his death in 1987, due to complications from gallbladder surgery.

His legacy endures through the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and numerous exhibitions and retrospectives worldwide. Warhol left an indelible mark on pop culture, continuing to inspire new generations of artists.

The Andy Warhol exhibition at La Banque Museum in Hyères is an unmissable event for all art lovers. It provides a fascinating immersion into Warhol’s vibrant and colorful world, while highlighting the enduring importance of his legacy in contemporary art history. A visit that promises to surprise and deepen one’s perception of modern art, for both young and old alike.
