This screen print by Shepard FAIREY was created to promote vigilance in safeguarding the proper functioning of our democracies, on the occasion of the 2020 Trump–Biden election.
More broadly, in Eyes Open, the street artist urges viewers to remain alert and aware in the face of contemporary crises — elections, disinformation, the pandemic, and the climate emergency — asserting that keeping our “eyes open” is itself an act of resistance. The red rose emerging from a globe symbolizes life, hope, and the fragility of our planet, while evoking the need to nurture it as a shared garden. The stylized eye beneath the globe represents the sharp gaze of collective consciousness — it observes, questions, and calls for engagement. Finally, the fact that Shepard Fairey (OBEY) donates part of the proceeds to the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) reinforces the idea that this visual message is also translated into concrete action for environmental protection.
