The small-scale release of the GONE sculpture took place in 2019 during an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. KAWS GONE depicts Companion holding a BFF character in its arms, who appears unwell—either injured, or possibly dead, in any case harmed. Originally produced in a large format, KAWS GONE now exists in a mini version, revisited in black, brown, and gray. In the original version, Companion is rendered in shades of gray while BFF shines in electric blue. Interpretations of the sculpture vary, but it is likely that the artist intended to evoke themes of mutual aid and solidarity toward the most vulnerable, or simply toward those who are suffering.
