The Mercedes W196 is a legendary Formula 1 car designed by Mercedes-Benz for the 1954 and 1955 World Championship seasons. Equipped with a direct-injection inline eight-cylinder engine, it was a technological marvel for its time. The W196 came in two versions: an open-wheeled (monoposto) variant and a streamlined (streamliner) body optimized for fast circuits. Driven by legends like Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, it won 9 out of 12 Grands Prix, marking Mercedes' dominance on the world stage. With the W196, Fangio claimed two World Championship titles. In addition to its performance, its avant-garde design and exceptional finish left a lasting impression. After the tragic Le Mans disaster of 1955, Mercedes withdrew from competition, making the W196 a rare and valuable icon in motorsport history. Antoine DUFILHO’s interpretation of the Mercedes W196 is a dynamic sculpture, with sleek and refined lines, resolutely contemporary.
