Samir Ellouzi is a self-taught artist who began painting in 2021. His instinctive approach to painting naturally led him to work with acrylics. Drawn to their quick drying time and water solubility, he uses them in fluid form, applying them with a palette knife or a brush.

Samir worked as a mathematician for ten years (he obtained the agrégation in mathematics in 2000), then as an architect for another decade (he graduated from the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Montpellier in 2013). His appreciation for abstraction and the beauty of logical reasoning gradually evolved into a more intuitive and sensual artistic practice.

Also passionate about surfing and the aquatic world, his time in the studio allows him to relive sensations experienced on and beneath the water—sensations he describes as simple yet intense, and which he seeks to convey through his paintings.

The shores of the Mediterranean shaped his childhood, followed by those of the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, which he explored in his youth. They remain an inexhaustible source of pleasure for the artist and the foundation of a palette that primarily explores shades of blue and green.
