ZENOY: French Graffiti and Street Art Artist

ZENOY is a French contemporary artist whose work is deeply rooted in graffiti culture and the hip-hop movement. In the late 1980s, he began experimenting with different graffiti tags, including "AWAISUN" and later "TRESH", before permanently adopting the name ZENOY in the early 1990s.

For several decades, ZENOY left his mark on the urban landscape, particularly on subway trains, railway carriages and railway lines. Through this extensive experience, he developed a distinctive artistic style closely connected to graffiti writing, lettering and urban culture.

Today, ZENOY is recognized for his ability to transform the visual language of traditional graffiti into contemporary artworks, combining expressive typography, vibrant colors, layered compositions and innovative materials.

From Street Graffiti to Contemporary Gallery Art

ZENOY's artistic practice originated in the streets, where graffiti lettering and the act of writing a name became the foundations of his creative identity.

Although his work has evolved over time, the artist continues to preserve this heritage while transferring his distinctive graphic language onto new surfaces.

Canvas, sculpture, skateboards, mailboxes and repurposed everyday objects provide different opportunities for artistic experimentation.

This evolution allows ZENOY to combine the spontaneous energy of graffiti with contemporary artworks intended for galleries and private collections.

Gesture, typography, color and texture remain central to his artistic universe.

His approach illustrates the transition from traditional urban graffiti to contemporary Street Art without abandoning the fundamental principles of graffiti writing.

ZENOY Paintings and the Full Colors Series

ZENOY paintings are characterized by their intense use of color, texture and typography.

The artist's name and individual letters become graphic elements in their own right, creating compositions that combine abstraction, graffiti lettering and contemporary Street Art.

His Full Colors series is particularly representative of this artistic exploration.

In these colorful paintings, ZENOY develops dynamic compositions in which overlapping letters, contrasting colors and textured surfaces create depth and movement.

Works such as Full Colors Cranberry and Full Colors Lime Green illustrate his transformation of traditional graffiti into contemporary paintings conceived as independent artworks.

The visual energy of the street remains present, but the composition, materials and treatment of the surface reflect a more developed studio practice.

Through this series, ZENOY demonstrates how graffiti lettering can evolve into a distinctive form of contemporary abstract art.

ZENOY: Textured Graffiti Paintings and Contemporary Relief Art

Some of ZENOY's artworks explore texture and three-dimensional effects in greater depth.

The artist notably uses raised acrylic compounds, which he shapes and combines with acrylic paint, spray paint and markers.

In creations such as Purple Infinity and Cosmic Horizon, graffiti moves beyond the traditional flat surface of the canvas.

Positive and negative spaces, raised textures and cut-out effects become essential elements of the composition.

Letters remain central to the artwork, but they are transformed into physical shapes, creating a dialogue between typography, texture and volume.

This approach allows ZENOY to preserve the foundations of graffiti writing while developing an artistic language suited to contemporary galleries and collectors.

His textured graffiti paintings demonstrate how traditional street art techniques can be combined with innovative materials to create visually striking contemporary artworks.

ZENOY Skateboards: Graffiti Art on Urban Objects

The skateboard represents another natural artistic surface for ZENOY.

Closely associated with skate culture and the urban environment, it allows the artist to extend his exploration of graffiti lettering and color beyond the traditional canvas.

ZENOY skateboard artworks become contemporary Street Art pieces in their own right, combining the visual energy of graffiti with an object strongly connected to urban culture.

These painted skateboards illustrate the diversity of materials and surfaces explored by the artist.

They now form part of his artistic production alongside canvas paintings, sculptures and textured relief artworks.

By transforming skateboards into collectible art objects, ZENOY reinforces the connection between graffiti, urban culture and contemporary artistic expression.

ZENOY's Artistic Style: Graffiti Lettering, Color and Texture

Despite his transition from the streets to contemporary art galleries, ZENOY remains deeply attached to the traditions of graffiti writing.

His work is built around three essential elements: letters, gestures and the artist's name.

These are fundamental components of graffiti culture, in which the signature becomes both a personal identity and a visual composition.

ZENOY combines expressive lettering with vibrant colors, overlapping forms and textured surfaces to create a distinctive artistic language.

His paintings retain the spontaneity and visual intensity of traditional graffiti while incorporating the techniques and materials of contemporary art.

This encounter between historic graffiti culture and modern artistic experimentation gives his work an immediately recognizable identity.

Canvas paintings, the Full Colors series, textured relief artworks and painted skateboards represent different expressions of the same creative language rooted in the streets.
