In Icare, Hom Nguyen chooses extreme simplicity to depict the face of a young woman, or sometimes a child, using only a white acrylic pencil on a black background. This stark contrast creates a luminous presence that seems to emerge from the shadows. The fine, spontaneous lines give the artwork a palpable emotional intensity.
