BIOGRAPHY

Born in Paris in 1972, Hom Nguyen is a self-taught artist with an instinctive style.

With an unconventional personality, his works are just as much. Working with charcoal, gouache marker, oil or even pen, each of his paintings appears like a fight, a hand-to-hand fight with the material from which arises a will: to reveal the deepest part of the human being through lines and colour.

Most of Hom's work revolves around the creation of monumental portraits. The choice of colours, the application of the material or the liveliness of the gesture are always made with the aim of showing the world his vision of the human being beyond appearances. His works thus capture and transcend the depth of feelings and the complexity of emotions that upset the human soul.

His subtle representations address the duality of the visible and the invisible, the material and the immaterial. In this sense, Hom Nguyen pushes each of us to a reflection, an introspection, on what we show of ourselves, what we try to hide and what we really are.

Hom Nguyen's style, which is part of an expressionist tradition, speaks to everyone with immediacy.  This is demonstrated by the mastered vivacity of his strokes, whose breath reveals a relationship to Western culture that remains very free and does not prevent any incursion into other regions such as the look at the Asian artistic and philosophical tradition, like the art of calligraphy and Chan thought.

The artist's work is a matter of existential commitment. It keeps track of the ordeals experienced. It speaks of the real, but reveals it in a broader sense, with a profound intensity. It combines the visible and the invisible, intimate impulses and evanescent dreams. In perpetual movement, constantly renewing itself, constantly experimenting with the possibilities of different mediums, Hom Nguyen's line gives form as much as it disfigures, the motif emerging from a magma of matter made of entanglements and spidery superpositions.

Between imprint and disappearance, transitory and eternal, Hom Nguyen's writing is particularly sensitive to the human values he embodies and conveys: a feeling of appeasement, respect, and communion. These values, for him, are the foundation of all art: like a path that links one man to another.

The Class Art Biarritz gallery offers multiple works by Hom Nguyen, whether skateboards, paintings, drawings, or serigraphs.
