In Entité, Hom Nguyen explores the profound and essential dimension of being through a portrait where intensity and abstraction intertwine. The face — or rather the “entity” — emerges from swift, gestural, almost fragmented lines that reveal the subject’s inner complexity. The artist employs a variety of techniques, layering acrylic, ink, charcoal, or gouache with drips, nervous strokes, and textured marks to capture emotion, memory, and lived experience. The artwork oscillates between presence and mystery; what is shown remains partly hidden, unfinished, like an identity in constant formation. Through Entité, Hom Nguyen questions what constitutes the essence of an individual — their history, their wounds, their roots, everything that shapes the invisible beyond appearances. The piece carries a quiet yet powerful intensity, inviting the viewer to contemplate, feel, and reflect.
